The best-selling novelist, Lion Feuchtwanger, fled Germany in 1933 with the rise of the National Socialists. Living first in exile in France (1933-1940), Feuchtwanger and his wife, Marta, ultimately emigrated to the United States in 1940, coming to Los Angeles in 1941.
